Wisconsin Herd come out on top over Maine Red Claws in shootout
The Wisconsin Herd walked right into a high scoring affair with the Maine Red Claws on Thursday night and edged them out 118-111 in their final meeting with the Boston Celtics’ affiliate for the season.
Following a few days off and the loss of starting point guard Brandon Jennings, the Wisconsin Herd picked up play again on Thursday night as they took down the Maine Red Claws, winning 118-111 in a fast paced, high scoring affair.
The night started off with both the Herd and the Red Claws answering and countering each other for the first few minutes as they each grew into the night’s proceedings. It was the Herd, however, who broke up that pace by going on a 16-3 run from the 5:52 mark of the period to the 1:52 mark, eventually leading to them being on top of the Red Claws 41-28 after one quarter.

It was the Red Claws’ turn to flip the script on the Herd in the second, considering they went on a 25-11 run to grab a hold of the lead at the 5:22 mark of the period.
Having made up their deficit as the Red Claws did, the game got back to the back and forth pace it started out for the night, leading to the Red Claws holding a 67-65 edge heading into halftime.
That carried over into the second half and despite a few attempts to pull away on the Red Claws’ part, the Herd put in a late push in the third to hold a 93-89 lead with 12 minutes to go.
From that point on, the Herd didn’t cede control of the game as they possessed their lead at an arm’s length of the Red Claws all throughout the fourth quarter. With the win on Thursday night over the Red Claws, the Herd now stand at 21-25 on the season and four games back of the sixth-seeded Grand Rapids Drive.
