An offensive dry spell and overall second half collapse led to the Wisconsin Herd getting run off the floor on Monday night by the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

A night that held so much promise at one point in time only led to disappointment for the Wisconsin Herd, as they were overwhelmed by the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Monday night, losing 121-107.

The Mad Ants raced out of the gate to start the night, leaving the Herd having to catch up to them all throughout the first. As unlikely as it looked at a few moments in the period, the Herd eventually did just that as they evened things up at 36 at the end of the quarter, thanks to a buzzer-beating shot made by guard JeQuan Lewis.

The second quarter was a more tightly contested one between the Herd and the Mad Ants, with both teams having an answer for one another score after score.

But the latter stages of the frame proved to be the Herd’s best as they made a significant push in the latter stages of the quarter, good enough to hold a 69-61 lead heading into halftime.

Unfortunately for the Herd, that would be the last real point in the game where it stood competitive between them and the Mad Ants. The reason for that was how the contest slipped through their grasp all throughout the third quarter as they were outscored by the Mad Ants in the period 35-15.

Just like that, after having matched the Mad Ants step for step and holding a solid lead at one point, the Herd were searching to recover their early game form to no avail, which carried over into the fourth quarter.

The Mad Ants continued to blow the proverbial doors open from there, considering they once held a 25-point lead near the five minute mark of the fourth. In what remained of the game, the Herd drew down their deficit to make the game look more respectable on their part when it was all said and done.

With the loss to the Mad Ants last night, the Herd now hold a 21-27 record with just two games left to go in their inaugural season.
