After being selected with the 17th overall pick in last year’s draft by the Milwaukee Bucks, forward D.J. Wilson‘s rookie season was limited to late game cameos and a number of appearances with the Wisconsin Herd.

If there was one word to describe D.J. Wilson’s rookie season with the Milwaukee Bucks, insignificant quickly comes to mind.

Picked 17th overall in the 2017 NBA Draft, Wilson’s first season with the Bucks is arguably more memorable for what led up to his arrival to Milwaukee than what he produced on the court for the Bucks this year.

Of course, that’s referring to the Bucks’ eventful and bumbling search that led to the hiring of Jon Horst to succeed John Hammond as the team’s general manager.

It was only five days that separated the hiring of Horst and last year’s draft, leading many Bucks fans to be concerned over a draft process that had gotten completely lost in the shuffle from the outside looking in.

Wilson’s nondescript rookie year hasn’t eased that concern from Bucks fans, especially after seeing players selected after him go on to show flashes throughout their rookie season like John Collins, Jarrett Allen and OG Anunoby.

However, seeing how Wilson’s development progressed on both the high school and college level, being a late bloomer has been his calling card throughout his basketball career. Whether that comes to fruition on the NBA level is another question entirely, but the jury is still out on whether Wilson can become the rotation piece the Bucks envisioned upon drafting him last June.

So without further ado, let’s go over D.J. Wilson’s rookie season with the Milwaukee Bucks, how he fared when sent down to the Wisconsin Herd and much more.
