Having spent the past few days in a training camp in Las Vegas, Travis Trice was named in the final USA Basketball squad for upcoming qualifiers.

As USA Basketball take to the court for crucial qualifying games in the next week, the Milwaukee Bucks will have their own representative on the 12-man roster.

Having been invited to USA Basketball’s recent training camp in Las Vegas, Travis Trice clearly did enough to impress coach Jeff Van Gundy and his staff, as he survived the final cuts made to the roster, which were announced on Monday.

With the 14-man training camp required to be cut down to 12 players in line with FIBA regulations for the team’s qualifiers, Van Gundy opted to cut V.J. Beachem and Jordan Crawford from his final USA Basketball roster.

Joining Trice in the final 12-man squad are Bryce Alford (Oklahoma City Blue), Dwayne Bacon (Charlotte Hornets), Henry Ellenson (Detroit Pistons), Reggie Hearn (Grand Rapids Drive), Isaiah Hicks (New York Knicks), Dakari Johnson (Free Agent), Frank Mason III (Sacramento Kings), Ben Moore (Fort Wayne Mad Ants), Chasson Randle (Capital City Go-Go), Jameel Warney (Texas Legends), and Derrick White (San Antonio Spurs).

According to the USA Basketball press release to accompany the final squad announcement, Van Gundy will continue to put his 12 players through their paces as training camp will continue through to Thursday at UNLV’s Mendenhall Center.

From there, the U.S. National Team will play their first game of the second phase of qualifying for the FIBA World Cup, hosting Uruguay on September 14 from Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas.

Following on from that game, Van Gundy’s team will travel to Panama City, where on September 17 they’ll match up with the Panamanian National Team.

For Trice, on top of being afforded the honor of representing his country, the upcoming games should also give him the best chance to arrive to Bucks’ training camp in peak condition and make the best of the opportunity given to him there.

Trice will very likely start next season in the G League with the Wisconsin Herd, but a fast start to the season and a strong first half will not only be important for him remaining in contention for USA Basketball squads for future qualification windows, but may also position him for NBA opportunities via 10-Day contracts or Two-Way deals as the season progresses.

First and foremost, though, Trice’s focus will be locked on ensuring two important wins for his country, as the journey to next year’s World Cup in China continues.
