Among the many surprises throughout the Milwaukee Bucks’ 2018-19 season, the sudden rise of second-year forward D.J. Wilson gave us all a promising look into his future.
It would be safe to say that throughout their 60-win regular season and run through to the Eastern Conference Finals, the Milwaukee Bucks defied the expectations the majority had for them heading into the year.
No one player for the Bucks this season embodied that feeling more than sophomore forward, D.J. Wilson.

The 23-year-old’s rookie season was spent mostly on the bench and when he did see the floor throughout the Bucks’ inconsistent campaign that year, it was on the occasional assignment to the Wisconsin Herd.
It was far from an inspiring start, but thankfully, the slate was wiped clean for Wilson with the arrival of head coach Mike Budenholzer in May of last year.
Under Budenholzer and his staff’s guidance, which boasted a pedigree for developing a whole host of players coming into Milwaukee, Wilson laid down the foundation throughout his second year with a much more sizeable role than was offered to him the previous season.
And with those opportunities and armed with plenty of motivation, Wilson often brandished his very promising, interesting skill set, giving all Bucks fans a lesson to not be beholden by first impressions.
So without further ado, let’s examine D.J. Wilson’s sophomore campaign by going through the highs and lows, his shining performance of the year, and where he goes from here.
