After leading his team to their first NCAA Tournament victory ever in 2019, we take a look at highly regarded Belmont guard Dylan Windler in our continuing series previewing prospects in the 2019 NBA Draft.

He may have started his college basketball career as a relatively unknown commodity, but Belmont Shooting Guard Dylan Windler is unknown no more.

After starting his collegiate career as a 6’8″ wing without a consistent shot, Windler turned himself into one of the elite long-range shooters in all of college basketball by the end of it.

More from Bucks News

In his freshman year at Belmont University, Windler was used almost exclusively as a rotation player off the bench. He started just one of the 32 games he appeared in that season, playing 18.4 minutes per game while averaging 4.3 points, 4.5 boards, 0.9 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.6 blocks on a 49.5/23.9/66.7 shooting line.

By his senior year, however, Windler became Belmont’s premier talent. Windler led the team in scoring at 21.3 points per game while also averaging 10.8 boards, 2.5 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.6 blocks in 33.2 minutes per game.

His shooting was nearly unmatched in all of college basketball. He shot 54 percent from the floor, and 42.9 percent from three on over seven attempts per game in 2018-19. His effective field goal percentage, which considers three pointers being worth more than twos, was an insane 65.1 percent.

By the time he was finished with his collegiate career, Windler had become one of the most efficient scorers ever. His career effective field goal percentage of 64.1 percent puts him 18th all-time for all men’s college basketball players.

Windler’s run culminated in a record-setting season for Belmont University. For the time time this March, Belmont won an NCAA Tournament game when they beat Temple 81 to 70 in their First Four match-up. They would go on to narrowly lose in the Round of 64 to Maryland (79-77), despite a monumental 35 point game from him.

As he prepares for the 2019 NBA Draft, Windler knows he has a great opportunity in front of him.

"“I try not to put too much pressure on myself and say one little drill or one little thing is going to destroy your whole draft. But this stuff is important. There’s obviously a lot of eyes on you. They’re watching everything you do, whether it’s on the floor or off the floor. You try to represent yourself well, represent your school well, do all the little things that show what kind of person you are and player you are.”"

With all of that said, let’s dive into Dylan Windler’s draft profile, starting with his strengths.
