Khris Middleton took on a new role for the Milwaukee Bucks in 2018-19, and earned his first All-Star berth in spite of occasional struggles.

Anyone looking to trace the Milwaukee Bucks’ journey for their outstanding 2018-19 season may be best served by going all the way back to an early summer breakfast as the real starting point.

As the Bucks and Mike Budenholzer went through the process of figuring out if they were the right match for each other, the team’s then prospective coach sat down for breakfast with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton.

Antetokounmpo’s status as the franchise’s true superstar undoubtedly meant his opinion coming out of that meeting was most important, but it was also the first step in implementing a change in style that would see Middleton’s role change significantly over the course of the year.

Middleton certainly had his bouts of struggles in making the necessary changes, but he bought in, which was crucial to Milwaukee’s evolution as a team.

Stepping away from the ups and downs that Bucks fans lived through with Middleton’s play over the course of the year, his campaign finished with career highs per 36 minutes in points, rebounds and assists, along with a breakthrough first All-Star appearance and a starring performance in that game for good measure.
