The Milwaukee Bucks reportedly agreed to terms on a two-year deal with Thanasis Antetokounmpo on Sunday, but how does the deal grade?

After weeks of speculation, a flurry of reports from Europe and the U.S. on Sunday seem to have confirmed the worst kept secret in Milwaukee Bucks basketball: Thanasis Antetokounpo is set to sign a two-year, veteran minimum deal ($3 million total) to play alongside his brother in Wisconsin.

Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s six seasons with the Bucks have meant Thanasis is no stranger to the Bucks, and vice versa, but heading into the 2019-20 season that relationship is set to take on a very different, and more official dynamic.

Thanasis, Giannis’ elder brother, is a small forward who has spent the last three seasons playing in Spain and his native Greece. Prior to that, Thanasis enjoyed a spell in the D-League prior to being drafted with the 51st overall pick in 2014. That led to a very brief spell with the New York Knicks, but more generally more time spent in the NBA’s minor league.

Of course, Thanasis has also soaked up plenty of international experience playing for the Greek National Team, and is slated to do so again, alongside Giannis, at the FIBA World Cup later this summer.

Not possessing his brother’s size, Thanasis is more obviously a wing, yet he does boast similar athletic gifts to Giannis. Highlight dunks and blocks are very much part of the Thanasis experience, even if fundamentally sound play isn’t necessarily always a given.

With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at the deal that brings Thanasis Antetokounmpo to Milwaukee, while also getting to know his game just a little better.
