The Wisconsin Herd have tabbed their second coach in franchise history as they announced Monday morning that Chase Buford has become their new head coach.
After having an open vacancy not long after the end to the 2018-19 G League season, the Wisconsin Herd have tabbed their next guy at the head coaching position.
The Herd and the Bucks organization as a whole announced Monday morning that they have named Chase Buford to be the affiliate’s new head coach, the second in franchise history.

The son of famed and now-former San Antonio Spurs general manager R.C. Buford, Chase spent the last two seasons as part of G League coaching staffs, first with the Erie Bayhawks and most recently, the Delaware Blue Coats.
Of course, Buford’s time with the Bayhawks during the 2017-18 season would overlap with current Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer as that was his last year leading the Atlanta Hawks before landing in Milwaukee.
Before that, Buford served as a coordinator for player development with the Chicago Bulls under former NBA head coach Fred Hoiberg from 2015 to 2017.
The 30-year-old made a name for himself on the collegiate level playing as a reserve for the Kansas Jayhawks and he was a member of their championship run during the 2008 NCAA Tournament.
As part of the announcement, Herd general manager Dave Dean had this to say about bringing Buford on board and what he brings to the organization:
"“Chase has had wide-ranging basketball experiences over the past seven years, both in the G League and the NBA, and we believe he’s one of the bright young coaches in the game,” said Herd General Manager Dave Dean. “We are excited by his approach, fresh ideas and collaborative spirit. It’s a pleasure to welcome Chase to Wisconsin and to the Bucks family.”"
Additionally, Buford provided a statement on getting the opportunity to be the Herd’s new coach and that he’s looking forward to getting straight to work:
"“I am thrilled to be the head coach of the Wisconsin Herd and to join the Bucks organization,” Buford said. “I want to thank Dave Dean and the Bucks for giving me this opportunity in the G League. I am looking forward to developing young, talented players on and off the court. I cannot wait to get to work.”"
The Herd also relayed that they will introduce Buford at a later date and time.
With that, we give Chase a hearty welcome to the Bucks organization as well as the state of Wisconsin and we look forward to what he does with the Herd next season and beyond.
