In spite of the fact the Milwaukee Bucks’ roster looks set for training camp, there’s reason to believe a further wildcard move could still be on the cards.

It looks as if the Milwaukee Bucks’ offseason transactions are all wrapped up.

There’s a clear picture of a potential 15-man roster in place, assuming Dragan Bender survives training camp, there are new additions at the two-way spots in the form of Frank Mason III and Cameron Reynolds, and even the camp roster is full thanks to the additions of Rayjon Tucker, Jaylen Adams and Luke Maye.

In spite of what all of that suggests, though, across the course of the summer there have been enough rumblings to believe one more surprise may not be out of the question for Jon Horst and the Bucks’ front office.

On Wednesday, a report from ESPN’s Marc J. Spears listed the Bucks as one of a number of teams scheduled to work out seven-time All-Star and current Big3 standout Joe Johnson.

Even in his later stints in the NBA, Johnson’s scoring ability and mastery of the iso game showed itself to have value in limited minutes, and considering his dominance and knack for hitting big shot after big shot every week in the Big3, it’s no real surprise that he has earned the attention of teams around the big league again.

From a Bucks’ perspective, there’s certainly no harm in doing due diligence on Johnson and, in fact, it would possibly be more alarming if they weren’t exploring all options and considering all possibilities.

But this report acts as just the latest in an increasingly long line of summer rumors that would suggest the Bucks may still be more active than it would appear they have reason to be.

Going back as far as Summer League, Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports reported the Bucks were one of a number of NBA teams in attendance to watch a workout involving Monta Ellis and Amar’e Stoudemire, who were both harbouring comeback hopes.

Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype reported last week that the Bucks were scheduled to work out veteran big man Trevor Booker.

While Ben Stinar of Amico Hoops has listed the Bucks as among the teams interested in Hasheem Thabeet, Chasson Randle and Jodie Meeks at various points in the last month.

It goes without saying that reports of this nature can often equate to agents attempting to drum up interest in their clients rather than the teams in question holding any meaningful interest of their own. In that regard, there are certainly multiple names listed above who wouldn’t even seem worthy of a closer look from the Bucks.

Still, even if these reports are all a byproduct of agents posturing, the fact the Bucks are believed to be worth mentioning as leverage, given their roster is technically full, raises its own questions.

It’s entirely possible and, realistically, even likely that the Bucks won’t make another move between now and the start of the season. But the possibility of further ins and outs can’t be ruled out of the question entirely. If the Bucks are as active on the workout scene as they’ve been reported as being, the chance of a standout winning them over is certainly in play.
