Wesley Matthews
Last but certainly not least, Wesley Matthews makes his Wisconsin homecoming and is well aware of how he can unleash Antetokounmpo in a whole host of ways during this coming 2019-20 season.
Similar to Korver, Matthews brings high-level three-point shooting that will benefit Antetokounmpo and further unlock his passing game, both in the halfcourt and in the open floor. And while he’s well adept on shooting triples off of the catch, he does have the ability to navigate around screens and give the Bucks some movement and a dimension that way.
And with Antetokounmpo pulling the strings and commanding all of the attention from opposing teams, Matthews may never have had it as easy firing away from long range in any other year in his 11-year NBA career.
Defensively, Matthews brings a level of toughness, ferocity and experience that will be leaned on by the Bucks throughout the season. The 32-year-old may not be the same level of defender as he was earlier in his career and before his Achilles injury, but his effort level and mentality hasn’t diminished by any means.
As he said himself during Media Day this year, Matthews is simply not looking to mess up the good thing the Bucks have developed under Budenholzer’s guidance. But we all know he could be a valuable contributor for the Bucks this coming season for all of the reasons above.
