According to reports, the Milwaukee Bucks have picked up the third-year team option for sophomore combo guard Donte DiVincenzo as well as the fourth-year option for forward D.J. Wilson.

Just mere hours before they tip off their 2019-20 season against the Houston Rockets, the Milwaukee Bucks have completed some housekeeping moves as it relates to two of the developing pieces on their roster.

Per The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Bucks have picked up the third-year option in Donte DiVincenzo’s rookie contract ahead of next Thurday’s deadline.

As Charania notes, DiVincenzo’s third-year salary is slated to top over $3 million in their cap books.

It’s not particularly surprising to see the Bucks commit to DiVincenzo ahead of his sophomore season tipping off tonight, even as he has plenty to prove going into the 2019-20 campaign.

That, of course, speaks to what as essentially a redshirt rookie campaign for the Villanova alum, who appeared in 27 regular season games for the Bucks and a handful of G League assignment to their affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd.

In the end, injuries ended up derailing DiVincenzo’s first season in Milwaukee and it was a case of bilateral heel bursitis that prematurely shut down the 22-year-old’s year in late March.

Now fully healthy, DiVincenzo is set to play a part in the Bucks’ approach to replace the production of outgoing guard Malcolm Brogdon and parallels were definitely drawn between DiVincenzo’s first year at Villanova and his first season in the Cream City as he spoke to during his Media Day session:

"“It’s very similar to freshman year at [Villa]nova. I was playing a little, got hurt, and had to learn a lot from off the court. Same this year, I was playing, got hurt and I had to learn a lot from these guys, from the film room, from watching on the sideline. Going forward, like I did in college, just keep moving, keep getting better every day, and things will take care of themselves as long as I keep getting better.”"

Now we’ll just have to wait and see whether the investment the Bucks have made in DiVincenzo can pay off in what’s a crucial season for the organization as there are literal title hopes on the line this year.

Along with confirming Charania’s initial report, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Matt Velazquez broke the news that the Bucks have also picked up the fourth-year option for forward D.J. Wilson.

Like the news of DiVincenzo’s option, Wilson seeing through his rookie contract, at least in a salary sense, is far surprising. But unlike his fellow first rounder, Wilson showed the necessary flashes to extend his future in Milwaukee as he did throughout his sophomore campaign.

Last season, Wilson averaged 5.8 points on a .414/.362/.553 slash line, 4.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists in his 48 regular season appearances last year and displayed some incredibly tantalizing defense all throughout that makes him one of the more interesting developing pieces within Milwaukee’s foundation.

With both of those pieces of business out of the way, we can now look forward to the return of Bucks basketball and hopefully both DiVincenzo and Wilson will play key roles throughout the season to come.
