It was announced Monday afternoon that Milwaukee Bucks superstar and reigning MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo, was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the first time in this 2019-20 season.

After cleaning up multiple honors throughout all of last season, Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has started to kick off his run in style this 2019-20 NBA season.

The NBA announced Monday afternoon that the reigning MVP has been named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the first time this season for his play from October 28 to November 3.

Over the Bucks’ four games last week, where they went 3-1 against their opponents, Antetokounmpo averaged 25.3 points on .578/.200/.641 shooting splits, 13.3 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 2 blocks and a steal over his 32.6 minutes of action per contest.

The 24-year-old is no stranger to amassing such monstrous numbers throughout his career and he did so during much of last season, which is why Antetokounmpo ultimately came away with six player of the week nods throughout his MVP campaign.

But it’s putting up that level of production through what was clearly and up and down week by Antetokounmpo’s lofty standards that may be the most telling in light of him being named Player of the Week.

The Bucks’ inconsistent start has created some concerns from Bucks fans early on and Antetokounmpo had to sort out through some issues, such as fouling out in the team’s first two games as well as struggling to get the same looks offensively with bigger crowds in the paint.

It’s too early to tell whether he’s turned the corner on all matters, but it looks to be the case judging from his play from the second half of the Bucks’ rout over the Orlando Magic onwards, all of which culminated in Antetokounmpo’s dominant and spotless outing in their revenge win over the Toronto Raptors over the weekend.

Of course, Antetokounmpo has the bigger picture in mind when it comes to getting better as the season goes on for the Bucks as he told Matt Velazquez of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel following the Bucks’ win over Toronto Saturday night:

"“We’ve got to get better,” Antetokounmpo said. “Got to get better. Got to be in the moment. We cannot stop playing, we cannot relax. People are coming after us. Nothing’s going to be given to us.“Doesn’t matter if we made the Eastern Conference finals last year and we won 60 games – nobody’s going to give us 60 games this year. We’ve got to go out there, play hard, play together and try to put ourselves in a position to win each game.”"

As much as that applies to everyone on the Bucks’ roster, it still is true for someone as tremendously talented as Antetokounmpo is and it won’t be surprising to see collect similar honors as we move throughout the 2019-20 season.
