One month into the NBA season, an intriguing MVP race is heating up with the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo at the forefront once again.

Having hit the one-month mark of the 2019-20 NBA season, we haven’t necessarily moved beyond small sample sizes entirely, but we are certainly approaching the point where a clearer picture of the league’s shape for the year begins to emerge.

With that, one of the many areas that’s set to start gaining added attention is the battle for this year’s Most Valuable Player award.

More from Bucks News

Through the early running, there’s every reason to believe that this year’s MVP race could be one for the ages.

With a mix of different playing styles and personalities already standing out, and with multiple players already demonstrating the ability to put up incredible individual numbers while helping their teams to wins, it stands to be even more fun than usual to track the awards contenders this year.

Therefore, that’s exactly what we’re going to do. With the Milwaukee Bucks’ own Giannis Antetokounmpo being the reigning MVP, and one of the clear frontrunners to win the award again this year, once a month or so we’re going to check in on the race and take a wider look around the NBA at which players are factoring into the discussion.

In many ways highlighting the incredible depths of talent in the NBA, and the league’s constantly unpredictable nature, only one of the five players I highlighted as Antetokounmpo’s primary rivals a few weeks back still features on this list. More changes of that nature should likely be expected throughout the year too.

So without further ado, let’s dive into it and take a closer look at the current top-5 contenders in the MVP race.
