Bucks as buyers
The Bucks find themselves in a position of luxury where they don’t necessarily need to make any dramatic moves to fill glaring holes in their roster.
Still, that’s not to suggest that there aren’t certain types of players that could tempt them into making a move to further strengthen their already formidable roster.
With just two traditional point guards on the roster, and given Eric Bledsoe‘s track record of playoff struggles, a deal to bring in some quality backcourt contributors would perhaps be the most logical move for Milwaukee.
To date, the only player reported as a potential Bucks target who could fit that bill, while also offering a boost in shooting, is 23-year-old Detroit guard Luke Kennard.
A shortage of quality guards available may certainly play into that, as it likely already has to the fact that the Bucks seem to be frequently linked to power forwards.
Given the Bucks already have Ersan Ilyasova backing up Giannis Antetokounmpo at that spot, not to mention D.J. Wilson, and Brook Lopez, Robin Lopez, and Dragan Bender rounding out the rest of Milwaukee’s strong frontcourt options, these deals would likely suggest bigger changes than most would anticipate with the Bucks at this point of the season.
Robert Covington was frequently mentioned as a potential Bucks target before his trade to Houston, while Markieff Morris and James Johnson have also emerged in Milwaukee-related rumors over the past day or so.
If those rumors are to be believed, Milwaukee may well be on the lookout for another strong and versatile forward. But a deal for a guard or a skilled wing shooter would still seem to make the most sense for the Bucks, though.
