Marvin Williams

How do I grade Marvin Williams’ sole game with the Bucks? For what it’s worth, my colleague Jordan Treske gave him a B+ for his contributions against the Pacers, but for this segment it’s undoubtedly more instructive to take a wider view of Williams’ campaign with the Hornets.

Williams’ season overall has been very solid, albeit challenging. Williams will certainly play a reduced role in Milwaukee relative to his overall career to this point, but there’s still a chance it could surpass what he was seeing in Charlotte as the Hornets’ focus began to pivot to increased minutes for young players.

Shooting 37.6 percent from deep with the Hornets, and 36.2 percent overall for his career, played a major factor in the Bucks’ interest in signing Williams.

Likewise, the defense and rebounding that have been staples of his career to date have persisted this season, even as Williams is a lock to finish the year with fewer than 35 starts for the first time since his rookie season. To be exact, Williams had just one start in Charlotte this year before being traded, having previously started every game he’d played for four straight seasons.

Nothing from Williams’ season suggests he’ll be anything other than very good for the Bucks in the months ahead, although his minutes will likely come in higher stakes scenarios than he’s ever previously faced as a pro.
