Alex Antetokounmpo, brother of Milwaukee Bucks duo Thanasis and Giannis Antetokounmpo, will turn pro in Spain after signing for UCAM Murcia.

Between Thanasis and Giannis Antetokounmpo with the Milwaukee Bucks, and Kostas playing on a two-way deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, the Antetokounmpo family has already built quite the formidable basketball legacy in recent seasons.

With news on Monday that youngest brother Alex Antetokounmpo is also joining the pro ranks, the Antetokounmpo name looks set to only continue dominating basketball conversation around the world.

Foregoing the college route after a standout high school career at Dominican High School, Alex Antetokounmpo makes the professional jump by heading straight to one of the world’s truly elite leagues too.

Signing a three-year deal with UCAM Murcia, Antetokounmpo will ply his trade in Liga ACB for the foreseeable future, the top league in Spain.

Alex follows in Thanasis’ footsteps in that regard, as although the elder brother didn’t play in Spain prior to the draft, he largely rejuvenated his career after his first stint stateside by playing for Andorra in Liga ACB.

There’s every chance that Alex will eventually follow in the footsteps of his brothers and find himself making the jump to the NBA, but in the meantime there may not be a better proving ground in the world than Liga ACB for his development.

Alex Antetokounmpo’s pro career is likely to be followed very closely as he’s been the subject of high praise from brother Giannis Antetokounmpo.

On that front, it’s worth remembering the hype that has long followed Alex, in large part due to Giannis hyping up his game.

Speaking to Bleacher Report’s Mirin Fader in a fantastic profile of the youngest Antetokounmpo last year, Giannis stated his belief that Alex could yet end up being the best player of the four brothers.

"“I definitely think Alex can be better than me,” says Giannis, 24, who was named the league’s MVP this past season after leading Milwaukee to a league-best 60 wins and then to its first trip to the Eastern Conference Finals since 2001. “He stays motivated. He wants this. That’s what makes him special. He’s not satisfied.”"

With that statement guaranteed to remain in the minds of many, Alex’s progress will be monitored closely by NBA fans and teams alike during his time in Spain.

According to a EuroHoops report, Antetokounmpo has an NBA out at the end of every year of his deal.

"“The contract is very solid, financial-wise, for a player of his age and it also includes an NBA out clause for every summer.Murcia has continued with the tradition of signing good prospects and it’s a club with a great development system which is the main reason why the youngest of the Antetokounmpo brothers decided to go there.”"

In other words, if Antetokounmpo has a successful rookie season in Spain, don’t be surprised to see his name figure prominently in the build-up to the 2021 NBA Draft.
