After three years serving as the Milwaukee Bucks’ director of basketball strategy, David Mincberg has reportedly been hired as the new assistant general manager of the Detroit Pistons.

With so many regime changes among front offices across the NBA in recent months, it was only a matter of time an NBA team would look towards the Milwaukee Bucks’ way, given their recent rise and overwhelming success.

That eventually came to fruition as ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Tuesday afternoon, the Detroit Pistons have named David Mincberg their next assistant general manager under new GM Troy Weaver.

Thus ends Mincberg’s three-year stint in Milwaukee where he came not long into Bucks GM Jon Horst’s tenure. It was under Horst where Mincberg served as the team’s director of basketball strategy.

Mincberg had previously come to Milwaukee by way of the Memphis Grizzlies, which is where he initially broke through within the ranks of NBA management as the team’s director of basketball scouting and the team’s counsel from 2012 to 2017.

The Athletic’s James L. Edwards III, the beat writer or the Pistons, subsequently confirmed Woj’s report.

Mincberg is the first hire for the Pistons and Weaver, who was appointed as the team’s newest GM last month, as they continue to reshape their basketball operations. And considering the many connections between the two central division rivals, it’s just the latest personnel change in recent memory that continues to bridge the gap between the two teams.

Mincberg wasn’t the first Bucks executive to have been at least linked to a front office vacancy throughout this current hiatus as assistant GM Milt Newton had been linked to the Chicago Bulls’ GM job before it went to Marc Eversley.

What this means for the Bucks’ front office moving forward obviously remains to be seen.

Considering that Mincberg came as part of Horst’s grand reshuffling of the organization and Bucks’ front office three summers ago, the Bucks had yet to have seen one of their many figures within their front office depart up until this point, at least to my knowledge.

With Mincberg’s promotion and exit to the Motor City, it’ll be interesting to see how the Bucks will operate when looking to fill the position that Mincberg now leaves behind, whether that’s elsewhere around the league or perhaps internally.

Of course, the answer to that question will come in due time as the Bucks remain focused on restarting their dream season and reviving their chase for an NBA championship. As they do that, the best of luck goes to Mincberg on his new opportunity.
