Milwaukee Bucks: Revisiting D.J. Wilson’s 2019-20 season so far
By Adam McGee
D.J. Wilson has had a frustrating season with the Milwaukee Bucks, but could that turn around as the season wraps up in Orlando?
It would be an understatement to describe D.J. Wilson’s Milwaukee Bucks career as having been characterized by a series of ups and downs at this point. Still, time may be running out for the young big man to balance out the positives and negatives of his pro career to date.
Following a frustrating rookie season where playing time was hard to come by, and in which he looked far from impressive when opportunity did come his way, Wilson experienced a mini breakout last season in Mike Budenholzer’s first season in charge as head coach.

All of a sudden, the potential that fans had hoped to see realized when Wilson was drafted 17th overall didn’t seem like quite so much of a fantasy. A versatile, switch-able defender, with good feel for the game, and a stellar basketball IQ is the kind of player every team would want, and that’s what Wilson entered the current campaign threatening to be.
Unfortunately, for both Wilson and the Bucks, that hasn’t come close to materializing. Instead the former Michigan Wolverine has spent the bulk of the year on the bench, and hasn’t quite looked as effective as a year ago when he has gotten on the court.
Coming toward the end of the third season of his rookie deal, Wilson is approaching a key juncture in his career, and how he finishes the current campaign could yet prove to be crucial.
With that in mind, let’s reflect on his season so far, and consider what could lie ahead for Wilson in the Orlando bubble.
