According to a CNBC report, Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach Darvin Ham is believed to be in the mix for the Philadelphia 76ers coaching vacancy.

Another day, another report linking Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach Darvin Ham to a head coaching vacancy around the NBA.

Per CNBC’s Jabari Young, Ham is “believed to be in the mix” for the Philadelphia 76ers’ head coaching job after they recently fired Brett Brown earlier in the week following their first round sweep to the Boston Celtics.

This isn’t the first vacancy that Ham has been linked to this summer as he is reportedly among the shortlist of candidates up for the Chicago Bulls’ coaching job after they officially fired Jim Boylen earlier this month.

While either job has yet to progress to the interview stage and might not for a while, considering the uncertainty around the start of next season, Ham is certainly looking like a rising star among coaching circles.

That’s certainly been reflected in the number of coaching jobs Ham has been linked to over the last couple of years and ESPN’s Kevin Arnovitz perfectly summed up how the former 10-year NBA veteran checks all of the right boxes, regardless of any situation he may be walking into:

"“Darvin Ham would command the instant respect of current players with his voice and manner as a hard-nosed NBA vet. He also brings a strong development background as a longtime assistant to Budenholzer, who offers an annual clinic in the art of team building and management.”"

With the amount of head coaching jobs available, which only grows by the day in light of the Indiana Pacers firing Nate McMillan Wednesday morning, the NBA coaching carousel rides strong this year among the strangest set of circumstances. That may eventually set up the path for someone like Ham to get his foot in the door after grinding away as an assistant coach for over the last decade.

Having earned his stripes with Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer going back to when the two-time NBA Coach of the Year was first hired by the Atlanta Hawks in the summer of 2013, Ham certainly seems to be the next line to branch off from Budenholzer’s coaching tree.

Whether that happens over the coming weeks and months remains to be seen, but with the Bucks being seen as a template for success around the league, it only seems natural to believe Ham’s influence will soon earn him his shot at an NBA head coaching gig. Stay tuned for any further developments.
