Gauging the stock of the Milwaukee Bucks’ impending free agents – Pat Connaughton

There isn’t a more fascinating free agency for a Bucks player this offseason than Pat Connaughton.

Since coming to Milwaukee more than two years ago by way of Portland, Connaughton has been a vocal presence within the Bucks’ locker room and overall culture. And not for nothing, but Connaughton has turned some heads and seems to have a future in the league after overcoming early obstacles in his now 5-year NBA career.

Of course, consistency, especially in regard to shooting the 3-ball and spacing the floor, is the biggest issue that Connaughton has yet to master as a 3-and-D wing. Yet with the positional size, athleticism and decent ball skills he has displayed, the 27-year-old could be a target for opposing teams around the league.

To that point, Connaughton has already been linked to the Cleveland Cavaliers as a potential free agent target, but even they face complications with one potential roster spot open this offseason.

The Notre Dame product has openly discussed his willingness to stay in Milwaukee and build on the roots he has made here both on and off the court. And Milwaukee does hold early Bird rights on Connaughton, meaning they could re-sign him over the cap and likely the luxury tax if they so choose.

Without question Connaughton’s free agency will be something to monitor this offseason and all it takes is for one team to test the Bucks’ belief in Connaughton.
