With an abundance of shooting guards set to hit free agency, the Milwaukee Bucks may need to scour the market for some talent at the position.
As the Milwaukee Bucks gear up for what might be the most crucial offseason in franchise history, they have no shortage of questions to answer.
While the most prominent revolve around Giannis Antetokounmpo’s supermax extension and the search for an upgrade at point guard, the shooting guard position could also need addressing. Five of the shooting guards on Milwaukee’s roster can potentially hit free agency, which could leave a gaping hole in the backcourt.

These five include Wesley Matthews, Pat Connaughton, Kyle Korver, Sterling Brown, and Cameron Reynolds, four out of the five being regular rotational pieces for Mike Budenholzer’s team.
To compensate for these potential losses, the Milwaukee Bucks have a few options. The first is Donte DiVincenzo, the second-year shooting guard who showed incredible potential in his sophomore season. If the team suffers significant hits to their shooting guard depth, implementing DiVincenzo into a more prominent role is certainly on the table.
Another would be through the draft, where the Bucks possess the 24th overall pick from last offseason’s Malcolm Brogdon deal with the Indiana Pacers. That draft selection is not guaranteed to stay in Milwaukee, however, as it would be justifiable to believe it gets included in any deal if the team made some top-heavy trades this offseason.
Lastly, and likely a reality, the Milwaukee Bucks will do their due diligence on the free-agent market. Although this 2020 class is not the most star-studded, there a few names that could be desirable fits with the Bucks if the team can afford them.
Milwaukee is already limited financially and will have little flexibility to work with this offseason. As it stands now, the team will have a bi-annual exception, worth slightly under $4 million, and a non-taxpayer mid-level exception worth around $9 million. If the Bucks lose out on some of their guard depth, targeting some on the open market with this spending money might not be a bad idea.
As for who they should go after, here are five shooting guards the Milwaukee Bucks should target in free agency.
