In the wake of the Bucks’ season ending last month down in Orlando, the Antetokounmpos departed for Greece shortly thereafter and Giannis has been plenty busy while overseas.
The 25-year-old accepted his second straight MVP honor while in Greece and he and Thanasis recently visited his younger brother Alex on the cusp of starting his first professional season with UCAM Murcia in Spain.
How long the Antetokounmpos will remain in Greece remains to be seen and his return back stateside will surely reignite the conversation surrounding the Milwaukee Bucks.
After all, Antetokounmpo’s reported meeting with Bucks co-owner Marc Lasry that occurred last month portended that the conversations between the team’s ownership and the Bucks’ leading star would continue as both parties remain connected in how to navigate this critical offseason.
The Bucks’ latest playoff collapse has illuminated the team’s flaws regarding the construction of their roster as they seek upgrades to their foundation. Antetokounmpo wasn’t above criticism himself after his meager performance during their Conference Semifinals series against the Miami Heat before a rash of sprained ankles prevented him from seeing the court for Game 5.
Executing the type of offseason that the Bucks and Antetokounmpo wish to pull of is much easier said than done, of course. And that will be the talk surrounding Milwaukee all offseason long and as key events like the draft and free agency inch closer over the fall and the winter.
For now, those questions sit on the backburner as Antetokounmpo enjoys his time in Greece and the Bucks organize their plan of action for the offseason. And more importantly, the partnership and vision that both the Bucks and Antetokounmpo have for the future and competing for an NBA championship remains aligned as the Greek superstar remains happy in Milwuakee.
When Antetokounmpo returns from Greece, the conversation surrounding the Bucks and the reigning back-to-back MVP will surely pick back up again.
