Milwaukee Bucks 2020 NBA Draft: Examining Immanuel Quickley’s weaknesses

Quickley’s floor spacing and 3-point sniping will lead to him having a chance to carve out a role in the NBA, but the supplementary parts of his game are vital to ensuring his shot at the next level.

While Quickley has the physical tools and speed to hold his own, especially on the defensive end, being undersized at 6’3″ does limit his defensive versatility. And when coupled with the wiry frame that he has, there will be concerns over whether his lack of strength will lead to him being targeted under high-leverage situations.

Those concerns easily apply offensively too and when considering how Quickley will fare on the ball and being able to penetrate the paint. Combining his size disadvantages with his limited explosiveness, Quickley will be hurt most by the jump in size and athleticism when entering the NBA.

Whether Quickley can negate some of those questions with being more involved in initiating and creating offense is the big unknown in being able to diversify his role. At this point, Quickley is better served in being able to make plays for others when opposing defenses in small doses or when those defenses aren’t set.

That could certainly be a useful skill in being able to leverage his gravity off the ball or on the move and time will tell whether that will be a weapon in Quickley’s skill package.
