5 guards for Milwaukee Bucks to target at 24th overall pick – Tre Jones

Our next target, that being Duke guard Tre Jones, is someone the Bucks have reportedly interviewed with over the pre-draft process. It’s not hard to imagine why as Jones’ mix of ball handling, playmaking and sturdy perimeter defending falls in line with what the Bucks have historically valued at the guard position.

Jones surely improved his NBA prospects after a strong sophomore campaign that ended up seeing him earn this year’s ACC Player of the Year award as well as being named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. In his 29 appearances this year, Jones finished with 16.2 points on .423/.361/.771 shooting splits, 6.4 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals across 35.4 minutes per game.

While certainly undersized at six-feet in shoes, Jones’ steely defensive presence and bulldog mentality has harassed opposing ball handlers on the college level. And on the other end, Jones’ caretaking of the ball and reliable decision making makes him a solid table setter at the next level.

Just like Dotson, however, Jones’ shooting inconsistencies are a big question as it relates to how he will instantly translate and fill out a role on the NBA level. However, Jones’ improved 3-point efficiency in his sophomore season where he shot 36.1 percent does help mitigate the significance of those concerns to some degree.
