Milwaukee Bucks Rumors: Agreed to two-way deal with Jaylen Adams

Per reports from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Milwaukee Bucks have signed 24-year-old guard Jaylen Adams on a two-way deal.

The Milwaukee Bucks are not done making moves on what has been a very active Saturday.

The latest move includes bringing back a familiar face, that being Jaylen Adams. According to reports from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Bonnies Men’s Basketball, the Bucks are bringing the 24-year-old back for the 2020-21 season on a two-way deal.

Adams, of course, is no stranger to the Bucks. After being cut in training camp at the start of last season, he spent the 2019-20 season with Milwaukee’s G-League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd. In 33 games with the Herd, Adams averaged 21.5 points on .486/.407/.788 shooting splits, 5.1 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 1.8 steals across 32.7 minutes per game. Adams’ efforts saw him earn All-NBA G-League First Team honors, a much deserved accomplishment for a strong outing.

As good as Adams has been in the G-League, he has not seen much genuine NBA action. After going undrafted in 2018, the guard signed on with the Atlanta Hawks, where he saw a minimal role. In 34 games during the 2018-19 season, Adams averaged 3.2 points on .345/.338/.778 shooting splits, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 12.6 minutes per game. However, much like his tenure with the Bucks, Adams spent a handful of that season in the G-League, then playing for Atlanta’s G-League affiliate, the Erie BayHawks.

After the 2019-20 G-League season came to a close, Adams suited up for the Portland Trail Blazers for three games but played a near nonexistent part. Now, he comes back to the Milwaukee Bucks as he looks to find his place in the NBA.

Jaylen Adams will likely spend a majority of this upcoming season with the Wisconsin Herd again as he tries to earn a standard NBA deal.

As Adams tries to work his way back onto an official NBA roster, he should take a page out of Frank Mason III’s book. Mason, who also spent most of the season with the Herd, signed a similar two-way deal last summer.

The guard went on to have a fantastic season with the Herd, where he averaged 26.4 points on a .504/.425/.815 slash line, 3.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.1 steals across 31.5 minutes. His strong season earned him G-League MVP honors. The Bucks have reportedly tendered a $1.5 million qualifying offer towards the guard, making him an unrestricted free agent and someone that the team will likely look to bring back.

If Adams pieces together another strong showing in the G-League next season, who knows, perhaps he could find himself with a similar fate. That should be the goal for the guard, and he will undoubtedly have a chip on his shoulder heading into next season as he tries to work his way up into the NBA, whether that be with the Milwaukee Bucks or elsewhere.

As it stands, Milwaukee’s Saturday acquisitions include D.J. Augustin, Bobby Portis, Pat Connaughton, and last but not least, Jaylen Adams. Time will tell if general manager Jon Horst and company have any other moves in store as the day progresses.
