Power forward No. 4 – Mamadi Diakite
After going undrafted, Mamadi Diakite did not have to wait long to find a home as he signed a two-way contract with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Standing at 6’9″ with a 7’3″ wingspan, Diakite gives the Bucks another solid option to bolster their previously thin frontcourt depth. While the 23-year-old can play both the center or the power forward, he might be best suited to play the latter as he weighs in at just 222 lbs. coming into the league.
No matter what position he plays, if Diakite can translate the success he saw during his senior season at the University of Virginia, he could be a welcoming surprise for the Bucks. In 30 games at the collegiate level last season, all being starts, Diakite averaged 13.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, 0.6 assists, and 1.3 blocks across 32.8 minutes per game.
While the big man’s defensive presence is arguably his strongest characteristic, he also showed improved range with his shooting from behind the arc. Diakite connected on 22 of his 55 attempts from 3-point territory in his senior season, which equated to an impressive 36.4 percent. All of these qualities make Mamadi Diakite an intriguing singing for the Milwaukee Bucks, and time will tell if he can develop into something special for them.
