The Milwaukee Bucks brought in many fresh faces during their roster renovation this offseason, and it is clear that some have fared better than others.

The new-look Bucks have been hit or miss this season, managing to piece together a 23-14 record through their first 37 games. With a handful of new players to get accustomed to the system and the returning players, Milwaukee’s far from perfect record should not come as much of a genuine surprise.

Despite the overall team struggles, several players have been fantastic this season individually, fulfilling their roles that many envisioned heading into the year.

Whether it be shooting, scoring, defense, playmaking, or even being an energizer, everyone on this Milwaukee team has a role, and several players are excelling beyond measure in their individual areas.

With a new and improved cast of characters in Milwaukee this season, here are three players that are playing their roles perfectly.

Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis is playing his role to perfection this season

With Ersan Ilyasova and Marvin Williams departing after last season, the Bucks needed to target a new backup power forward in the offseason. They found their guy when they inked Bobby Portis to a free agent deal, and it is safe to say at this point that they hit a home run with the signing.

Serving as Milwaukee’s sixth man, Portis has provided a substantial boost off the bench, averaging 10.8 points on .545/.487/.714 shooting splits, seven rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. Shooting career-bests in field goal and 3-point percentage, the former Arkansas Razorback has been highly efficient offensively to lead this bench unit.

Bucks fans knew they signed a special player immediately after Portis made a strong impression during his introductory media availability. Discussing how Milwaukee was the place for him because he wanted to join a winning culture, he also hit on what he believed he brought to the table for this team:

"“I’m a guy that loves to come off the bench, loves to score the basketball. So, you know, being able to provide an extra scoring lift off the bench or being able to fill any role that’s given to me and going out there to try and bring a competitive to the game. I’m a guy that plays with the edge. I go out there and give it 110 percent every night.”"

This competitive edge has been on display from the big man all season long whenever he steps on the floor, and there is no denying Portis’ impact has been felt. Portis has had his issues defensively, but he has been a seamless fit with his efficiency on the offensive end at an all-time high.
