The Milwaukee Bucks continue shoring up their roster following this year’s trade deadline.

First reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski Monday afternoon, the Bucks are signing veteran guard Jeff Teague, who just cleared waivers after seeing his short-lived stint with the Boston Celtics come to an end.

More from Bucks Rumors

Of course, this reunites Teague with Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer, whom he played under for three seasons during their shared time with the Atlanta Hawks from 2013 to 2016.

This stands as something of a full circle moment for Teague as he had signed a four-year, $32 million offer sheet with the Bucks in the summer of 2013, which the Hawks ended up matching. Now nearly eight years later, Teague is reportedly set to don a Bucks uniform in the late stages of his NBA career.

The reported addition of Jeff Teague bolsters the Milwaukee Bucks’ guard depth

Of course, Teague is not the same player that nearly came to Milwaukee for the brief Larry Drew era and nor is he the All-Star-caliber player that played a central in the Hawks’ success last decade with Budenholzer in town.

The fact that Teague was shipped out of Boston shouldn’t be overlooked, even as the Celtics have suffered through a myriad of problems in their underwhelming campaign thus far. In his 34 appearances with Celtics, Teague averaged 6.9 points on .415/.464/.836 shooting, 2.1 assists and 1.7 rebounds across 18.1 minutes per game.

But the Bucks are in a position where they need all the help they can get as it relates to their guard depth at the moment with star guard Jrue Holiday standing as the lone traditional ball handler on their roster.

Of course, the reported addition of Teague comes after the Bucks have been linked to Austin Rivers, who has yet to clear waivers after being released by the Oklahoma City Thunder Sunday morning. While Milwaukee still stands as the frontrunners to land Rivers, Teague serves as another body to fill their point guard hole on the depth chart and the Bucks have two open roster spots to bring in both veterans.

Barring something unforeseen happening in regards to Rivers, the Bucks’ roster looks to be set as they get set to bring in Teague. What kind of role the 32-year-old ends up playing remains to be seen at this stage and the same goes for when he’ll join the Bucks, though it should be noted his last game with the Celtics came against the Bucks last week.

As the Bucks get set to kick off a six-game road trip out West Monday night against the L.A. Clippers, we’re bound to see Teague’s Bucks debut come in the coming days. Welcome to Milwaukee, Jeff!
