The Hawks are flying high right now after taking down the Eastern Conference’s top-seeded Philadelphia 76ers in Game 7 on the road Sunday night. Although this team is mostly composed of younger players, they have proven that they are ready to win now in these playoffs.
That makes for an interesting matchup that is filled with several newsworthy headlines before the series has even tipped off. With that said, here are three storylines to follow for Bucks versus Hawks.
The Milwaukee Bucks have earned homecourt advantage over the Atlanta Hawks
This is undoubtedly not the most fascinating headline to draw from this matchup, but it is worth noting nevertheless. With Milwaukee being the East’s third seed and Atlanta the fifth, the Bucks have homecourt advantage on their side in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Interestingly enough, the Bucks have not yet lost at home in these playoffs as they are playing fantastic basketball in their home arena. Boasting a perfect 5-0 record in Milwaukee to this point, this team has handled their business on their home floor. Of course, homecourt previously did not mean as much throughout a large portion of the season with limited fans allowed in attendance, but with Fiserv Forum having reinstated full capacity, it is back to being a massive advantage.
Conversely, they are just 3-3 on the road in the postseason, with their latest win coming in that thrilling Game 7 win at the Barclays Center over the Nets. Although some of their numbers are better statistically away from home, the Bucks will unquestionably embrace the opportunity to play in front of those home fans with a trip to the NBA Finals on the line. Time will tell just how big of a factor homecourt will play in this series and whether the Bucks can keep the momentum going in front of their home crowd that they have established to this point.
