Milwaukee Bucks: Giannis Antetokounmpo investing in Milwaukee Brewers
Giannis Antetokounmpo already has built up a basketball fanbase with the Milwaukee Bucks, but it seems like he wants to try his hand at another sport, although he will not be playing it.
First reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan and MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, the Milwaukee Brewers announced that Antetokounmpo will be buying a stake in the club. As Passan notes, this comes after Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes bought a small stake in the Kansas City Royals after signing his massive extension last year.

Obviously, financial details haven’t been reported yet on Antetokounmpo’s investment into the Brewers. This should also be a familiar feeling for Wisconsin sports fans, as Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is also a part owner of the Bucks.
This is the first time in 17 years that the Brewers have welcomed a new investor into the ownership group, and it makes sense that it would be Antetokounmpo.
Giannis and the Brewers held a press conference to officially announce the Bucks superstar as an investor, where Antetokounmpo spoke on what this means to him, why he wanted to keep investing in the city of Milwaukee, and how big of a baseball fan he is.
Highlights from the press conference announcing Giannis Antetokounmpo investing in the Milwaukee Brewers
It really is awesome to see Antetokounmpo keep supporting the city of Milwaukee as much as he has, and now he’s able to do it on a far larger scale. Giannis has always been very active in the community with his charitable efforts, but this is a bigger financial commitment for him and his family.
At the press conference, a common refrain from Antetokounmpo was speaking about how much the city of Milwaukee means to him and how he wouldn’t be where he is today without it. Giannis has always talked very glowingly about Milwaukee, but this press conference and a lot of his interviews post-championship have had a more sentimental tone.
It should be obvious from the contract extension that he signed prior to last season, but Milwaukee is a place that Giannis considers home now. He has essentially grown up in Milwaukee and where he’s spent a lot of his adult life.
Giannis said that the decision to join the Brewers ownership group was made during the bubble — where the NBA resumed the 2019-20 season after a brief hiatus — when he decided he wanted to keep giving back to the Milwaukee community. Even when he was told that they hadn’t allowed a new investor in the ownership group in almost two decades, Giannis wanted to pursue it anyway.
It was a decision that was finalized in May but was held under wraps until now because, as Giannis said, they wanted to find the right time to announce it and not interfere with the Bucks’ playoff run or to take away from what the Brewers are doing right now.
It’s an exciting time to be a Wisconsin sports fan as the Bucks just won a championship, the Packers are about to begin their season, the Brewers are in first place, and now, the Bucks’ superstar has invested himself into the Brewers as well.
It is a great time to be a Wisconsin sports fan, and hopefully there is more to come ahead.
