The Milwaukee Bucks will have a familiar face back in the backup point guard role next season.

That will be George Hill, who retake the reigns in the second unit after the team signed him to a two-year deal in free agency. It will be the point guard’s second stint with the team after playing 106 regular season games and 25 postseason games with Milwaukee between 2018-20, and fans are thrilled to have the 13-year veteran back on their side.

More from Bucks News

After all, given the roller coaster ride that was Milwaukee’s backup point guard slot last season, welcoming back a player to bring some stability to the position is just what everyone had been clamoring to see.

Given his previous experience playing with several members of the franchise, along with a similar coaching staff, it should not take long for Hill to refind his stride and help the Bucks in their quest to repeat as NBA champions.

With that being said, here are three goals for Hill to shoot for during the 2021-22 NBA season.

Goal No. 1 — George Hill needs to be a reliable defender for the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021-22

Since Mike Budenholzer took over as head coach, the Bucks have ascended into one of the NBA’s best defensive teams. When breaking down Milwaukee’s defense, many will think of names like Jrue Holiday, Brook Lopez, and the Defensive Player of the Year in Giannis Antetokounmpo. Hill has never been known for his defense throughout his career, but just as he did during his first stretch with the team, he should find a way to fit in.

Some will argue that Hill was even an underrated defender during his first go-round with the Bucks, and they might have a valid point. Although he stands at just 6-foot-4, what makes Hill such an intriguing defender is his incredible 6-foot-9 wingspan. That is certainly an advantage for the guard, and he utilizes it to the fullest extent on the defensive end. Although he is 35-years-old, Hill still possesses some athleticism in his game, which has helped him stay up to par on defense.

To be clear, Hill will not give the Bucks the exact same defensive excellence that Holiday does. It goes without saying that no one is expecting that to be the case. Still, when Hill takes the floor to give Holiday a breather, throwing a reliable defender out there would be a massive lift for the Bucks. While Hill will not get any consideration for All-Defensive honors at season’s end, he has proven to be a solid defender, which the Bucks will need in his second run with them.
