2 key assistant coaches join Adrian Griffin’s staff with the Bucks
By Dalton Sell
After the Milwaukee Bucks hired Adrian Griffin as their next head coach, many were curious to see who would be brought in as assistants to help him in his first head coaching gig.
A pair of key names have reportedly joined the staff, as Joe Prunty and Patrick Mutombo are set to be on the sidelines in Milwaukee next season, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Prunty is very familiar with Milwaukee, as he was previously an assistant and interim head coach there back in 2018. Mutombo has prior experience with Griffin, as the two were together in Toronto previously.

These are a pair of solid names to add to Griffin’s staff. Prunty has experience with several pieces of Milwaukee’s core and has carved out a name for himself as a strong assistant who has been an interim head coach twice in his career. Griffin’s familiarity with Mutombo is a justifiable reason as to why the latter was brought in, as they clearly work well together on the sidelines.
In addition to these two, Terry Stotts was also recently hired to be a part of Griffin’s staff. He’s the most notable name among the bunch, as he’s been an established head coach in this league for a handful of years and will bring help offensively. Yet, that should not downplay the additions of the duo of Prunty and Motombo, who will bring different perspectives in their own right as well. All of it should help ease Griffin into the swing of things.
So far, it’s hard to dislike what the Bucks are doing with their coaching staff surrounding Griffin, as they’ve added some strong names and certainly aren’t done just yet. One name to keep an eye on might be Charles Lee, who served as Milwaukee’s associate head coach this past season. He was a finalist for the Detroit Pistons job that went to Monty Williams, and his name remains in the mix for the Toronto Raptors opening. If he does not land the latter, perhaps the Bucks could convince him to return under Griffin.
