In the 2022-23 NBA season, the Milwaukee Bucks had the second-best opponents’ field goal percentage, as their opponents shot .456 for the season. The Memphis Grizzlies’ opponents had the worst field goal percentage at .453.

This was the third straight year that Bucks’ opponents shot .456 for the season, per Basketball Reference. In the 2019-20 season, the Bucks held the opposition to the worst field goal percentage in the league at .414, the lowest opponents’ field goal percentage in Milwaukee team history. The 2018-19 Bucks also led the league in lowest opponents’ field goal percentage at .433.

Inside the Stats: Milwaukee Bucks 2022-23 opponents’ field goal percentage

Here are a few stats from the 2022-23 season that you may not know about the Bucks’ opponents’ field goal percentage.

·         When the Bucks held the opposition under .400 field goal percentage in a game, the team went 15-0 last season. When they held opponents under .450, Milwaukee was 39-3 (.929). The team was 6-15 (.286) when their opponents shot 50 percent or better from the field; the Bucks were 19-21 (.475) in games where the Bucks’ opponents shot 45 percent or higher in a contest.

·         In the Bucks’ 24 losses in 2022-23, their opponents shot .470 or better in 19 of those 24 games.

·         The Bucks never allowed their opponents to shoot .500 or better in three straight games. They allowed opponents to shoot .500 or better in two straight games on three occasions.

·         In the five-game playoff loss to Miami, the Heat shot .475 for the series. They shot over .500 in three of the five games; the Bucks went 1-2 in those games.

·         For the season, Bucks’ opponents shot .500 or better in 21 games. That was tied for the fifth-fewest in the league. Memphis allowed their opponents to shoot .500 or better in 19 games, the fewest in the league last season.

·         As mentioned above, the Bucks were 15-0 in games where the opposition had a field goal percentage under .400 for the game. Those 15 games of holding the opponents under .400 field goal percentage were the most in the league in 2022-23. The New York Knicks were second in the league with 13 games. For the year, NBA teams were 160-24 (.870) when they held their opponents to a field goal percentage under .400 for a game.
