With the 58th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft, the Milwaukee Bucks selected guard Hugo Besson, who had been playing overseas.

Following a Summer League showing, the team opted to stash Besson overseas for a year, where he played with Metropolitans 92 of the LNB Pro A. Now, with the 2023-24 season on the horizon, fans have started to wonder if the Bucks might bring Besson over this year, given that they seem to be embracing more youth under Head Coach Adrian Griffin. That answer has been revealed.

Bucks’ GM Jon Horst gives insight on Hugo Besson’s status for 2023-24

Speaking at a conference following the 2023 NBA Draft, General Manager Jon Horst was asked about the possibility of Besson coming aboard next season. Horst said that while it’s not likely the guard will be on Milwaukee’s roster soon, he is absolutely in the team’s plans, though it’s unclear exactly when those plans are. He added that the Bucks worked with Besson’s team last season to work with his development as a player. Horst is hopeful that Besson will join Milwaukee for Summer League but could not commit to it fully.

Besson underwent surgery this past year that caused him to miss time, but Horst made it clear that the guard is getting back up to speed. It would be great if Besson joined the team for their upcoming Summer League showcase, as he’d have an opportunity to display his skills after this surgery hindered him for the past few months.

While he might not join the Bucks this upcoming season, there very well may be a place for him in the future. Milwaukee is always looking for more wings, and the 6-foot-6 Besson would fit in like a glove. On the floor, Besson would bring shot-creation skills and scoring off of the bench, which the Bucks could always use more of. At 22 years old, the guard has plenty of room to grow, and it does make some sense for the Bucks to keep him overseas, where he’d get more minutes to prepare for when the team does decide to bring him in.

Who knows, if Besson shines in Summer League, perhaps the Milwaukee Bucks could bring him in for the 2023-24 NBA season, but for now, it seems quite unlikely.
