The Milwaukee Bucks completely changed their roster around this summer. They shipped out Giannis Antetokounmpo, getting back a massive return of players and picks from the Miami Heat. Tyler Herro headlined the package. But now, the Bucks should still consider trading Herro at some point before the deadline (whether that be before the season or in-season).
Herro is already 26 years old. Though he’s a one-time All-Star, he’s not exactly the type of player you build your team around. Milwaukee can keep him around for a bit, but selling him to a team willing to pay a solid price would be smart. And getting draft picks back in return would be ideal for the Bucks.
That said, the Bucks would likely have to get players back, too. So, what players could the Bucks target in a potential Herro trade? Here are three ideas.
Tyler Herro trade targets for Bucks: 1. De’Andre Hunter
Is there a world in which the Sacramento Kings want to add Herro? Would they want to bring in some more star power, especially considering Herro is on an expiring contract?
De’Andre Hunter isn’t an amazing fit for Milwaukee. However, he’s on an expiring deal, and he could help the Kings match Herro’s salary in a trade.
Hunter is a decent 3-and-D player (though his three-ball is inconsistent). If nothing else, he’d be a decent, expiring contract for the Bucks to take back, especially if the Kings attach some draft capital.
2. Desmond Bane
The Orlando Magic just traded for Desmond Bane last year. But they have a very expensive roster, and they’ll have to make some tough decisions. If they could extend Herro for less than Bane makes, it would be ideal.
Bane is set to make over $39 million this upcoming season, and he’s under contract for two more years past that, making $42.2 million and then $44.9 million.
Milwaukee would have to get back some draft capital to make the deal, but it could be an interesting idea if the picks were good enough.
3. Zion Williamson
This is the most out-there of the bunch. Would it even be realistic? Maybe not. But what if the New Orleans Pelicans are willing to move on from him?
Trading Herro’s expiring contract in a package for Williamson could be a perfect big-swing trade for the Bucks to consider. Worst case, it doesn’t work out.
But best case, Williamson plays more consistently, and the Bucks have a real building block to work with (however unlikely).
