Jenkins clearly deserved another head coaching opportunity.

The Bucks decided to go in a new direction by hiring Taylor Jenkins but he’s not an unproven coach, as former NBA player Chandler Parsons emphasized. Parsons commended Jenkins on his previous tenure,

“He was in Memphis for 6 years with 4 playoff runs…he dealt with a lot of drama.”

Jenkins could face a similar situation in Milwaukee, and his proven history of success under such circumstances bodes well for the Bucks.

Taylor Jenkins has a good track record

Jenkins has a good history of turning around a struggling franchise to reach new heights. His tenure with the Grizzlies was one of the most successful in franchise history and his leadership has a huge impact. Not only was Jenkins able to develop his young talent effectively, he also instilled a common team identity that led to a lot of wins.

At the time, the Grizzlies seemed like a team with great vibes ascending in the West. But as the years have passed since Jenkins’ dismissal, it’s become clear how much baggage he had to manage in Memphis. The team has had public fallouts with former key pieces such as Dillon Brooks and Ja Morant in the last couple years, but Jenkins held all that together when he was at the helm.

In Milwaukee, Jenkins will inevitably have some egos and off-court drama to manage with the lingering uncertainty of star Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future. But his previous experience makes him the perfect coach to handle that drama while still developing his younger players, like Ryan Rollins and Kevin Porter Jr.

Jenkins has a shot at redemption

Ultimately, Jenkins was ousted from the Grizzlies after failing to help his team get over the hump for meaningful playoff success. But his value in rebuilding that team to competency was tremendous. He took over a team that had won 33 games before he got there and elevated them to a 56-win 2nd seed within 3 years.

If Jenkins can help the Bucks find similar success, he will prove his worth as a head coach. His personal impact has already been vindicated by the Grizzlies’ disappointment since his departure, but adding Bucks success to his resumé will be an even bigger feather in his cap.

All in all, the Bucks made a wise decision to secure Jenkins’ services as their next head coach. They wasted no time securing him because they knew that other teams may also enter the coaching market as rival suitors soon. And even though there may be other strong candidates, Jenkins has proven himself worthy of the opportunity and gives the Bucks everything they could want.
