The Milwaukee Bucks have been among the teams registering trade interest in Anthony Davis, but a new injury update should end any discussion once and for all. Per ESPN's Shams Charania, Davis is set to miss time after suffering ligament damage in his hand in a recent outing. He's currently sorting out his options about where to go from here. The Bucks need to move on.

Bucks need to put their Anthony Davis trade interest to bed

As Charania noted, there's a chance Davis could miss months with this latest injury. The Bucks cannot afford to gut a significant portion of their roster to bring in a player like that unless their plan is to just punt this season and focus on next year. It's not. Davis' trade value is in the gutter right now after this latest update, and there's a reason for that.

Davis is a great player. There is no doubt about that whatsoever. However, his biggest weakness has always been staying healthy. He's often injured. Over the past year alone, the big man has dealt with injuries to his hand, groin, and Achilles. That goes without mentioning the surgery he underwent to fix a detached retina. When he's healthy, he can contribute. Yet, he's just rarely ever healthy.

Davis has appeared in 20 games this season, and while he's still been Anthony Davis, his numbers are down compared to his usual standards. He's averaging just 20.4 points (fewest since his rookie year), 11.1 rebounds (fewest since 2021-22), 11.1 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game. Part of his dip in production is because he's logging the second-fewest minutes of his entire career.

After years of seeing their title hopes being ripped away due to injuries, one would think Davis wouldn't be a priority for the Bucks, even before this latest update. If he has to undergo surgery, there's no telling when he might return this year, if he even does. Simply put, the Milwaukee Bucks need to pivot and focus on players with fewer question marks.

There's no telling what the Milwaukee Bucks will do over the next several weeks before that Trade Deadline buzzer sounds. All signs point to them doing something big, especially with them getting public confirmation from Giannis Antetokounmpo that he is sticking around. They have to get the wheels turning on something, but they must avoid any calls with Dallas.
