There's no clear direction right now.

With Giannis Antetokounmpo's future in Milwaukee still up in the air, the Bucks' pre-draft process is naturally all over the place. And the latest rumors on potential draftees they're considering have basically confirmed what everyone already suspected: they have no idea what they're doing or where they're headed.

Per Eric Nehm of The Athletic, the Bucks have already met with or confirmed interest in a wildly inconsistent group of prospects at the combine. The list includes the likes of Darius Acuff Jr., Nate Ament, Mikel Brown Jr., Brayden Burries, Cameron Carr, Chris Cenac Jr., Aday Mara, Labaron Philon Jr., and Keaton Wagler.

The Bucks have a wide list of names in mind for the tenth selection

The Bucks are looking at all different kinds of guys, from ready-made contributors, raw developmental projects, different positions, and different skillsets. They have no idea what direction to go in right now because they don't know what kind of team they're building.

Are they drafting to compete alongside Giannis? Then you want NBA-ready guys who can contribute immediately. Are they rebuilding after trading him? Then you want high-upside projects you can develop over time. Milwaukee's interviewing both types, which tells you they're preparing for multiple scenarios without knowing which one they'll actually face.

Nate Ament being on this list is particularly interesting given the earlier mock draft had Milwaukee taking Jayden Quaintance over him. Now they're interviewing Ament directly, which suggests they're at least doing their homework on the guy who actually fits their positional needs.

But then you've got guys like Aday Mara and Chris Cenac Jr. -- who are both bigs when Milwaukee already has frontcourt questions with Turner and Portis. Are they drafting replacements? Depth? Just covering all their bases in case everything changes?

The lack of clear direction is what makes this list so telling. Smart organizations have a type they're targeting to continue building towards contention. They actively look for a specific skillset or archetype that fits their system and timeline. Milwaukee's interviewing everyone, which usually means they're either being thorough or completely lost.

Given the Giannis uncertainty, it's probably the latter.

Giannis Antetokounmpo's pending decision has thrown the Bucks' direction into flux

This is what happens when your draft strategy depends entirely on decisions that haven't been made yet. If Giannis stays, you draft one way. If he leaves, you draft completely differently. And since you don't know which scenario you're facing, you just interview everybody and hope clarity comes before draft night.

The unsettled situation extends beyond just player evaluation too. Jon Horst doesn't know if he's building around a superstar or starting a full rebuild. That makes every organizational decision from draft picks, trades, even coaching hires -- basically impossible to execute with confidence.

Milwaukee's draft process is a mess because their entire future is a mess. They're preparing for every possible scenario because they can't commit to any single direction until Giannis makes his choice. And until Giannis decides his future, that uncertainty isn't going anywhere.
