Bucks' all-time high dysfunction bleeding into off-court drama

Man, the Bucks were a wreck last season.

The ultimate unwritten rule in sports is that what happens in the locker room stays in the locker room. Myles Turner did not follow that rule. As if the Milwaukee Bucks weren't dealing with enough misery at this point, Turner talked about how the Bucks were a mess behind the scenes this past season on his podcast Game Recognize Game, particularly shining a light on Giannis Antetokounmpo.

“If the plane took off at 2 o'clock, we weren't leaving till 4:30... Guys were late all the time. Guys were showing up to film whenever they wanted to show up. Guys were missing meetings. It was one of the craziest things I personally ever experienced...

Giannis is going to show up whenever he wants, really. I think that this kind of just came with the territory, and once I saw it was going down, I was like, 'Hey man, s***, more power to you. They ain't going to fine you."

Bucks were a mess not just on the court

No one looks good in this situation at all. Turner doesn't look good for spilling this truth, as many are already saying he "broke the locker room code." Giannis does not feel like the ultimate leader in this situation. Even if unnamed, anyone else who was showing up to anything late certainly played a part in Milwaukee's issues.

The Bucks' dysfunction on the court this season suddenly makes a lot more sense. It's hard to be a well-rounded, focused basketball team when not everyone is on the same page. It was already clear that Doc Rivers had lost the locker room, but if players weren't even showing up to meetings or plane rides on time, that makes things even worse on his end, but also their own.

This looks particularly poor for Giannis Antetokounmpo. Yes, it's clear that he was frustrated with the team this season and even flirted with a trade, but as the leader of this team, things like this just can't happen. It sends a bad message and, as evidenced by Turner's words, sets the entire locker room ablaze, where total anarchy ensues.

Other players were not so fond of Turner's words

Directly or indirectly, Milwaukee Bucks players responded to Turner's comments shortly after they got wind of them. In a video posted to social media, Giannis Antetokounmpo led with the caption, "Another day getting better and minding our business." That feels like an indirect shot, if not one of the world's biggest coincidences. Bobby Portis questioned whether the comments were AI.

This whole situation is a mess, but perhaps something good can come from it. Maybe Turner putting the team on blast will help them realize the error of their ways and actually work to build a culture with the Milwaukee Bucks next season. That involves showing up on time—heck, maybe even early. It may also just further disrupt the team's locker room.

Taylor Jenkins, Milwaukee's new head coach, appears to have his work cut out for him as he takes over the locker room. Unlike Doc Rivers, it's time to implement a no-nonsense approach. If no one falls on the same page, it will be impossible for this group to thrive.
