Bucks want to emphatically exorcise their scariest demon this summer

A poor drafting team wants to hoard as many picks as it can get.

Despite being an incredibly disappointing team at drafting, the Milwaukee Bucks are not letting their track record stop them from wanting to make a splash. According to league insider Jake Fischer, the Bucks are making calls around the NBA to acquire as many picks in this draft class as they can as the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade market heats up.

"League sources say Milwaukee is also calling rival teams in search of a third top-20 pick, and potentially another pick in the top-10 ahead of the Bucks’ current 10th selection."

Bucks rightfully looking to stock up

If the Milwaukee Bucks trade Giannis Antetokounmpo, they should obviously look to acquire as many draft picks as they can in return. However, they should particularly look to hoard as many as they can for this upcoming draft. Regarded as one of the best classes in years, Milwaukee getting several high-end names could be the perfect way to kick off a rebuild post-Giannis.

This is a bold move from the Bucks and General Manager Jon Horst. Since taking over, Horst has had far more draft misses than hits. The ratio isn't even close. Despite that, he doesn't care. If he can have three first-rounders in this class—Milwaukee's own at pick 10 and then two others from elsewhere—he'd be flat-out elated.

The question is how he plans on getting them.

Bucks will have options to land more picks

There are two likely pathways here.

The first is a deal with the Miami Heat, who would send over their 13th pick, in addition to a boatload of players and other picks. Yet, rather than send Tyler Herro to the Bucks, a third team would have to value him enough to send Milwaukee a first. Are there any teams out there looking for a former All-Star guard who is still just 26? That is the question.

The second comes from the Boston Celtics and the Atlanta Hawks. If the Bucks send Giannis to the Celtics, Boston can give Milwaukee the 27th pick. The true prize would be Atlanta's eighth pick if they are willing to trade it in order to acquire Jaylen Brown. Insider Marc Stein (subscription required) says that the Hawks do indeed have some interest in Brown.

Picks eight, 10, and 27 would be excellent. Yet, Fischer mentions that Milwaukee would like three picks in the top-20, so perhaps they would need to rope in another team to get it.

The Bucks must keep sorting through which scenario is the more desirable—or if there are any other deals out there that would make more sense. The opportunity to add multiple pieces in what looks like a legendary draft class in the making would certainly ease the pain that will inevitably come if a franchise icon is traded this offseason.
