The Wisconsin Herd, G-League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, have been in the news a lot lately.
In addition to Henry Ellenson catching attention for a red-hot stretch of performances or the team picking up Dennis Smith Jr. via the player pool, there's no shortage of things to talk about regarding the Oshkosh-based club. The team claiming Jack Gohlke from the player pool, as reported by insider Marc Stein, will only add to that, as they now have another eye-catching name on the roster.
The Herd have another sharpshooter, and the Bucks will be watching
Gohlke stepped into the spotlight earlier this year during Oakland's NCAA Tournament run. Though his team was certainly the underdog against the formidable Kentucky, Gohlke helped them defy the odds with a performance for the ages, knocking down ten 3-pointers en route to a 32-point outing in the tight victory.
Long distance shooting has always been Jack Gohlke's bread and butter. During his lone season with Oakland, the guard attempted 364 perimeter shots to just eight 2-point shots. He lived on the 3-point line, and the Herd, who rank 26th in 3-point percentage in the G-League this season, clearly want him to bring that marksmanship to their roster.
Gohlke, who spent the summer with the OKC Thunder before heading overseas with KK Podgorica, will now have an opportunity to showcase his talent in the NBA's G-League.
As Gohlke suits up for the Herd, the Milwaukee Bucks will certainly be keeping tabs on the situation. Over the years, they have consistently targeted 3-point specialists to better space the floor for their star players, particularly Giannis Antetokounmpo. Kyle Korver, Bryn Forbes and AJ Green are names who come to mind, and if he dazzles, Jack Gohlke could very well make a case to be next on the list.
People must remember that before he was the sharpshooting, defensive ace he is for the Milwaukee Bucks, AJ Green was an undrafted player who spent most of his rookie season down in the G-League. Given Milwaukee's limited assets to improve the roster, they have to find hidden gems, and one way to do so is by uncovering potential-filled players in the G-League.
If the Wisconsin Herd get both Dennis Smith Jr. and Jack Gohlke to suit up for them, this could be an incredibly fun squad to keep an eye on.
