Bucks could help Chris Paul get his wish, but they absolutely shouldn't

Love him or hate him, Chris Paul is one of the best point guards to ever lace them up. The eventual Hall of Famer is currently looking for his next spot, with the hold-up currently being that he wants a starting role, per Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press. The Milwaukee Bucks could offer him that opportunity, but they shouldn't, even if they could use another ball-handler.

Bucks need youth, and Paul doesn't help in that regard

For an entire season, Milwaukee Bucks fans were pleading for the front office to add more youth to this roster. They've committed to doing so, notably by swapping out Brook Lopez for Myles Turner and bringing back all of their young free agents, such as Kevin Porter Jr., Gary Trent Jr., and Jericho Sims. Bringing in the 40-year-old Paul would be something completely out of left field.

Could the Milwaukee Bucks use a veteran floor general? Absolutely. As things stand, Porter is the lone "point guard" on the roster. Milwaukee needs someone who can start or come off the bench. Paul's experience could be useful - he could throw some nice lobs to Giannis Antetokounmpo - but his age looms large here.

Again, Paul is 40 years old. He's been doing this for a long time. While he showed that he can still play at a decent level (he averaged 8.8 points and 7.4 assists while appearing in all 82 games last year), he's an aging, undersized guard who doesn't possess the youth, speed, and athletic ability Milwaukee is on the hunt for with every roster move.

The Milwaukee Bucks would be better off exploring the market for young point guards who may be on the cusp of breaking out. Could Kevin Porter Jr. take off with a bigger role? If they keep Ryan Rollins, can the guard build off his career year? Who else might be on the free agent market who has something to offer a contender? These are the questions the Bucks must ask, not if an aging guard is the solution.

Rather than Chris Paul, it sounds like the Milwaukee Bucks might be keeping an eye on another older ball-handler in Bradley Beal, who could soon hit the market. Beal wouldn't be perfect either, but he is much younger than Paul and has better production. Signing Paul wouldn't be a doomsday scenario, but the Bucks shouldn't be adamant about signing the veteran.
