The NBA Draft Lottery is Sunday, and the Milwaukee Bucks have chosen Mallory Edens, daughter of part-owner Wes Edens, to represent them. Why does that hold any significance? Well, the last time Edens represented the Bucks at the festivities was 2014, when they slipped down in the projected order and picked later than expected. Bucks fans certainly hope that doesn't happen again.
Edens was not Bucks' good luck charm
The Milwaukee Bucks had a 25 percent chance of earning the first overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. In those days, the draft lottery system was far different, as the Philadelphia 76ers were second on the list at 19.9 percent. With Edens in attendance, the Cavaliers shot up from the ninth overall odds to get the first pick, despite Milwaukee having such a strong shot.
Milwaukee finished second, so it wasn't a disastrous slip, but it still hurt. Parker's career was always clouded by the many injury woes that held him back from reaching his true potential, unfortunately. While the second selection was a downgrade back then, the Bucks would love to get their hands on it all these years later.
The Bucks need more luck this time around
The Milwaukee Bucks won't be competing for the top overall selection this time around, as they have a zero percent chance of getting it—the better choice between New Orleans and Milwaukee will go to the Atlanta Hawks. Yet their odds of landing a top-four pick, a considerable jump from their projected 10th spot, currently stand at 13.9 percent. If the Pelicans land ahead of them, that's a dream scenario.
No, it won't be Eden's fault if the Milwaukee Bucks remain around 10th in the lottery. She's not pulling any strings behind the scenes. It would certainly sting, though, if they dropped down further with her at the festivities once again. In a draft class this loaded, the Bucks need as much luck as they can get to get their hands on a new potential franchise centerpiece.
After the poor season that they just had, a high draft pick could help make it all worth it. Their odds of jumping into the top five are slim, but nothing is impossible in today's NBA. After all, the Mavericks did jump 10 spots last summer to land the top overall pick. The Bucks will keep their fingers crossed and hope they have that kind of luck on their side this coming Sunday.
