Everyone, including the team itself, knows that the Miami Heat need more 3-point shooting. Per ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania, Miami's top priority is acquiring more shooting to complement its new duo of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo. Ironically, after the trade they made this summer, the Milwaukee Bucks make plenty of sense once again as a Heat trade partner due to AJ Green.

Green would be a great addition for Miami
Green is one of the best shooters in the entire NBA. This past season, he buried 41.9 percent of his triple tries on 7.1 attempts per game. With numbers like that, he shattered Milwaukee's prior franchise record for most triples made in a season in 2025-26. A player like that would make all the sense in the world for the Miami Heat.
In addition to simply being an elite shooter, making Green even more desirable is that he already has chemistry with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis. Chemistry is crucial when crafting a team with championship expectations, and Green already has those ties. These three could pick up right where they left off if they were to join forces once again.
Heat's asset stash is pretty depleted
The Milwaukee Bucks took basically everything from Miami in the Giannis trade. They don't have too much left at the moment. That's why Charania reports they are hoping Klay Thompson gets bought out of his contract rather than having to trade for him, as they would then have a clear runway to sign him for cheap. That won't be happening with Green.
If the Heat were to express interest in Milwaukee's shaprshooting guard, they would certainly try to include Nikola Jovic in the deal. While a potential-filled young piece, the Bucks should rebuff offers that involve him but not desirable draft capital. Jovic is about to enter the second year of a new deal worth $62.4 million over four years. The Bucks should not want to get tied up into that contract.
Miami's best bet would be finding a third suitor to take on Jovic while they acquire Green and send draft capital to the Bucks.
Why would the Bucks trade Green, you might be wondering? Well, while he is a good player, the team simply has too many guards right now. He's older and also has some of the highest value of anyone in the backcourt. If the front office wants to knock out two birds with one stone, they could clear out the backcourt jam and add draft capital.
It would sting to see Milwaukee's undrafted success story leave, but these things happen in a rebuild.
