The Milwaukee Bucks should leave no stone unturned in their quest to add frontcourt help in the next few months. One possible route the Bucks will explore is the draft, where they pick 47th, as they have started working out prospects. The latest player on their workout list is Brandon Huntley-Hatfield of NC State, the second big man they've been eyeing.
Brandon Huntley-Hatfield is on the Bucks' workout list
Huntley-Hatfield fits right in with the Milwaukee Bucks' trend of working out experienced prospects. Having played four years of college ball, he's testing the NBA waters as a senior. The big man could even return to college to get another year under his belt, but it appears that he is currently seeing what teams think of him at this stage before making that decision.
On the court, the big man's numbers do not jump off the page. He had a solid season at Louisville in 2023-24, but upon transferring to NC State this past year, his production dipped mightily. He put up 7.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game while shooting 50.4 percent from the floor in his reduced role. The 21-year-old certainly wasn't expecting such a drop in playing time.
Huntley-Hatfield could use another year in college. He has the potential to be a nice rebounder and decent floor-spacing big man, but his stint at NC State did him no favors. His draft stock right now is far from high, as he's likely looking at being an undrafted free agent at the moment. If he goes back to school for a year in a new situation, perhaps he could build back his value.
Between Brandon Huntley-Hatfield and Samson Johnson, another senior big man, it's clear that the Milwaukee Bucks will scour the draft for frontcourt help. It wouldn't be surprising if they brought in some others, such as Creighton's Ryan Kalkbrenner, to weigh their options. If they can find a young, athletic big man, it would be a worthy use of the 47th selection in the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft.
If he fully intends on moving to the next level, Huntley-Hatfield could find his next home undrafted, where the Milwaukee Bucks could take a look at adding him to the Wisconsin Herd, their G-League affiliate, for a year to see what he has in the tank. It will all hinge on how this pre-draft workout goes.
