The Milwaukee Bucks' sudden signing of Alex Antetokounmpo requires them to cut a two-way player, and it will be Jamaree Bouyea, per HoopsHype's Michael Scotto. He felt like the most obvious selection if the Bucks were to make a move like this, so this isn't overly shocking. After a short stint, the point guard is back on the market looking for his next opportunity.
Bucks cut Jamaree Bouyea to sign another Antetokounmpo brother
The Milwaukee Bucks signed Bouyea to a two-way deal in March of this year after a spot opened up due to the signing of Ryan Rollins. The guard didn't play much, appearing in just five regular season games. He did turn some heads in the Summer League, especially with a game-winning bucket, but that wasn't enough to save him from this roster cut.
After the signing, Milwaukee's two-way room consists of Alex, Pete Nance, and Mark Sears. Unlike most two-way contracts used by other teams, this group is experienced. Although he has no NBA experience, Alex just turned 24. Pete Nance is 25 and has played with three NBA franchises, including the Milwaukee Bucks. Mark Sears is a rookie, but he's 23 years old.
While none are predicted to play a crucial role for the Milwaukee Bucks this coming season, they may be decent break glass in case of an emergency depth pieces due to that experience. Both Nance and Sears have flexed potential during the preseason thus far, and Alex has those Antetokounmpo genes. It's a quality group of players.
More than likely, the trio will spend most of their time in the G League with the Wisconsin Herd, where they can get actual game reps. Alex is no stranger to playing for the Herd, as he spent two seasons in Oshkosh from 2022 to 2024. He will rejoin his former squad as he looks to make it into the NBA next to his brothers Giannis and Thanasis.
Quietly, this will give Sears a larger opportunity to show off his skills as he aims to earn a promotion, becoming the lone Bucks point guard on a two-way deal.
The Bucks already showed their commitment to Giannis by handing Thanasis a standard contract this summer, but they've just doubled down. It's the first time in NBA history that three brothers have been on the same squad. For someone like Giannis, family is everything, so this won't be lost on him.
