Things haven't been perfect for the Milwaukee Bucks this season.
They've been through their share of highs and lows, but at the end of the day, their title hopes remain intact simply because they have Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard. These are two of the NBA's best, and their presence alone can keep the Milwaukee Bucks in games. That's precisely what took place in Milwaukee's recent matchup with the Orlando Magic.
The Bucks stars took over in the win over Orlando
Sometimes, the role players just have to give the ball to the stars and let them go to work. That's just what went down against the Magic.
After a slow start, Giannis Antetokounmpo quickly found his footing. It was up to the Greek Freak to pick his poison from there. He oftentimes cycled through bullying his matchup down low for a tough dunk and hitting a smooth mid-range jumper in their face. Orlando looked out of sorts trying to keep Giannis at bay, and understandably so as he flexed his versatility like this.
Damian Lillard has a more diverse offensive game due to his shooting, and he also caused problems for Orlando. He had six 2-point makes, three 3-point makes and eight free throw makes in what was an all-around showcase of Lillard's offensive arsenal. That goes without mentioning the seven assists he had to get his teammates some great looks as well.
These two kept the Milwaukee Bucks in the game, especially when things got tight in the final quarter. In the fourth, Giannis tallied 10 points of 5-of-6 field goal shooting. Damian Lillard also scored 10 as he sunk two of his three shots and nailed all five free throws. It was these two who helped the Bucks outscore Orlando by six in the final 12 minutes and secure a needed 109-106 victory.
In total, Giannis finished with 41 points on 19-of-29 (65.5 percent) field goal shooting, while Lillard poured in 29 points, seven assists and three steals. These two showed how much of a luxury it is to have two superstars who can put the team on their back and close games. They're the top-scoring duo in the NBA for a reason.
As long as these two are playing, the Milwaukee Bucks will have a chance in any game they play.
This fearsome duo could develop into a trio if Khris Middleton finds his footing. He had 11 points in this one, knocking in a few big shots, but he's still working his way back into form. Him serving as the third scoring threat could make this Milwaukee Bucks' offense even more versatile.
