The Milwaukee Bucks have undergone a big roster overhaul this summer, with just a few players remaining from last season's payroll. More changes might still be coming, with the Bucks firmly in the chase for restricted free agent Peyton Watson. If they get him, Bucks fans have to be intrigued by the idea of a Ryan Rollins, Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Watson, and Myles Turner starting five.
Bucks' potential new starting five would be intriguing
That lineup has eye-catching potential. Sure, it likely wouldn't be among the premier units in the NBA, but it could quietly gel well.
The Rollins and Herro backcourt should be a nice one-two punch. Herro will shoulder responsibility like he never has before, currently looking like Milwaukee's top option. While he's scoring, Rollins can play off the ball as an elite outside shooter and also take the other team's top guard. He can also take on some of the workload offensively as a ball-handler when needed.
Meanwhile, after having countless undersized wings and forwards over the past couple of seasons, the Bucks could deploy two legitimate options in Jaquez and Watson. Jaquez, coming off a second- place finish in the Sixth Man of the Year race, could provide tremendous scoring and facilitating as Watson brings energy and production to both sides of the court.
Finally, Myles Turner would round things out as Milwaukee's two-way center. After a down year, Turner has seemingly been written off in most NBA circles, and this could be his golden opportunity to fight back. With so many highly energetic players who can perform on both sides of the basketball around him, Turner could be rejuvenated and become the best version of himself once again.
For a team that just traded its franchise icon, this wouldn't be a poor spot to restart from.
Bucks' alternative to this lineup isn't quite as exciting
If the Bucks do not get their Watson hopes across the finish line, they will likely roll with this starting lineup but with Kyle Kuzma in his place. While Kuzma has a bad reputation despite actually having a solid year last season, starting him would certainly be far less exciting than having a 23-year-old forward who plays well on both sides of the basketball.
Bringing Kuzma off the bench as Watson's backup is far more exciting than starting Kuzma from day one next season. Luckily for the Milwaukee Bucks, Jake Fischer (subscription required) reports that Milwaukee is viewed as the likeliest external suitor to pry Watson from the Denver Nuggets. They are banging on the door of what could be a highly productive young five-man lineup.
