Giannis remains in Milwaukee, despite months of speculation
Charania confirmed on Thursday that Giannis would not be moved at the trade deadline. It was clear that the asking price for Giannis had risen with the likes of Jaren Jackson Jr. being moved for three first-round picks, shutting a lot of teams out of the running for the Greek Freak.
It has been a constant rumor all season long, and for several seasons, that Giannis would one day request out of Milwaukee. That has not happened, and the Bucks have shut that speculation down, along with the admin taking a subtle shot at insiders and their rumors.
This story will no doubt continue for the remainder of this season, as teams hope they have another chance to bring Giannis in. The Greek Freak is eligible for a four-year $275 million extension on October 1. Should he be traded in the offseason, the trade date will be pushed back by six months so he can earn the maximum allowed.
Minnesota was in the running for Giannis and very quickly flew to the top of all potential destinations. They made a move for Ayo Dosunmu, and the assets given up ruled them out of a deal. Golden State finally parted ways with Jonathan Kumings, leaving just the Miami Heat as one of the major contenders.
All these teams will gain extra first-round picks on draft night, and so will likely call Jon Horst once again to convince him to part ways with the two-time MVP.
It is not the first time that Giannis and the Bucks have subtly posted on social media, taking digs at speculation around their future. For now, he remains with the Milwaukee Bucks and still wants to return to the court this season.
There will be more new teammates brought in, and there may still be a move this offseason. However, Giannis Antetokounmpo, once again, remains a Milwaukee Buck.
The Bucks have pivoted to other moves since the news dropped.
Milwaukee has already made a small move with the Phoenix Suns, bringing in center Nick Richards and Nigel Hayes-Davis in exchange for Cole Anthony and Amir Coffey. All four players in the deal are one expiring deals, and it brings in a much-needed rebounder for the Bucks, but likely means there will be a further move in the frontcourt.
